I don't think Browning threw all that hard and he crafted a pretty decent career. Most lefties get by more on movement and location and a loose screw or two. Keeping BBs down may be as important as the strikeouts up for Maloney. A change-of-pace lefty ot two amongst harder throwers like Harang, Bailey and Cueto in a year or two, might not be a bad thing.

He's giving up a home run about every 10 innings, which is a little high for AA. Still, 19 K and 2 BB in 15 IP says a lot.

If a pitcher averages 6 or 7 innings a start, that's about one every other start. I can handle that if he doesn't walk many or allow many runners ahead of the moonshots. I recognize though that that number may rise a bit as he steps up to AAA and especially at the GAB.

Maloney may or may not make it. With these guys, it depends on how well they pinpoint their control.

He is a left-hander. There is a long tradition of crafty left-handers and I hope he is one. It would seem he has good control, and that will be important as he continues his minor league career. I will wait and see how he doe further down the line.

That's a pretty decent comparison and if he can hit the corners consistently he could be similar. Except here's the problem

Browning was a Flyball pitcher in a bigger park where groundball pitchers were at a slight disadvantage with the turf.

Maloney would be a groundball pitcher who is giving up an awful lot of flyballs in a park where flyball pitchers can often be at an disadvantage.

The command will be almost the single biggest issue he may face. He can get away with averaging a HR a ball game assuming he isn't walking a lot of guys and isn't allowing many hits. So that future defense better be up to par as well.

His walk rates really aren't all that great. He sure racks up the K's though for someone with supposedly modest stuff.
