Eric Byrnes Resigns With DBacks - 3 years / $30 mil

    As reported by ESPN:

    http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2964624

Interesting move by the DBacks. The terms of the contract seem to be fair market value but I'm not sure re-signing Byrnes makes a whole lot of sense when you've got Chris Young, Carlos Quentin and Justin Upton on the big league roster.

Good one less person the Reds could get if they don't re-sign Dunn.

Agreed. On a similar note I'm hoping the Twins decide to resign Torii Hunter before Krivsky overpays for him during the offseason.

And Lance from 1530 wanted Byrnes here. Sure, that was going to happen.

thats too much $ for byrnes in my opinion. you guys think krivsky will go after hunter if he's available? i would think the money would mainly be going towards bullpen help, and maybe a starter.

Brynes gets $10 mil. a year and somebody is going to try to convince me Dunn isn't worth 12?

So really Dunn should be making more money if Brynes is getting 10 million.

Byrnes may no longer be available, but Carlos Quentin is, and he is somebody the Reds should go after. What the Reds could give up to get him would be the question.

Yep, and that was a re-signing so on the open market it probably would have cost the Reds more than 10 to get Byrnes. In all seriousness, I would hope the more reasonable of the "dump Dunn" camp around here will see this and re-evaluate what else we could get with Dunn's money.

You know that's not going to happen. If Byrnes signed for 15 million people would still want to dump Dunn.

Yeah because we would not want someone who: can field his position, hit for average, steal bases, and has a little pop in his bat for 3 million less that the human windmill
