HR for Brian Giles to start it off.

Now Arroyo plunks Blum in the leg. Both hitters were in 2-strike counts.

I believe he slightly twisted his ankle reaching first - it seemed he was OK, but a rest today might not hurt.

Begs the question Team Clark brought up the other day. How good is the Reds scouting? The pitch to Giles was where you absolutely do not want to pitch him. We'll never know, but you have to wonder if our scounting is so horrible that our players are not getting good information.

    Top of 1st:

    Giles HR
    Blum HBP
    Cameron pops to CF
    Gonzalez flies to CF
    Greene SO

Runner left on first. Reds down 1-0

According to the Reds' announcers, San Diego is a club of hackers who don't take any walks.

They're sixth in the NL in BB- two behind Cinci. Go figure.

While the Reds scouts might not be the greatest around, most of the blame lies with the Reds pitchers. They just aren't that good. Belisle grooved one to Giles the other night and he capitalized and I think Arroyo just missed his spot today. I don't think you need scouts to tell you the obvious: keep the ball down in the zone and you're fairly likely to have success. Reds pitching just doesn't seem able to do that.

Eh, if the Reds don't know by now- after all the years Brian Giles has been in the league- that they can't bust him in the strike zone inside with a high-80's fastball...well, there's not much more scouting is going to do about it.

    Arroyo just missed.

Hopper with a 10 game hitting streak....that's always a good thing!

It'll be interesting to see if the gushfest continues if/when he goes in a 5-25 slump.
