    08/13/07 minor league updates

Louisville and Indianapolis are scoreless after two. Elizardo on the mound for the Bats. He has given up 3 hits and struck out one.

It appears as though Chattanooga has the night off. The Lookouts are in second place in their division, three games off the pace set by Huntsville. Huntsville won the first half, so maybe the second place team in the second half also makes the playoffs. I really am not sure how that works.

Sarasota is also taking the night off. In the second half they are now in 5th place in their division. They have already won the first half, which makes them playoff bound.

Is Gameday getting ready to say catcher's interference?

Guess not. I assumed that was how the Indy catcher hurt his hand.

    Jeff Bannon grand slam.

Billings is scoreless early. Brett Bartles tripled in the first for the Mustangs. He is quietly having a nice rookie season. He started at GCL but was bumped up early to Billings. OBP .384
SLG .500 OPS .884 to date (not including his triple).

He plays 3b and was drafted in the 30th round out of Duke.

I don't know how long it will continue, but Cantu has been hitting pretty well since joining the Louisville Bats.

    .333 AVG (23 for 69)
    7 Doubles
    1 Home run
    10 RBIs
    3 BB
    8 K

Bartles is another of many very very hard hitters we drafted this year. I hope next year we focus on pitching.

His walk rate tells me he will never be as valuable as the Reds announcers and a large portion of the fan base will think. In the majors he will continue to make outs 70% of the time and be a drag on the offense. If only he had a better glove or would be content coming off the bench.
