Boy, that's a blast from the past for Roy. I have a 1962 Cleveland Indians program with Al Luplow's autograph. Also Woodie Held, Tito Francona, Vic Power, Mudcat Grant, Bubba Phillips, and others.

My dad, brother, and I got our picture taken with Tito Francona. We were at a Sports Illustrated picnic and got to meet players. I was 10.

That's a neat story Roy. No SI swimsuit models at this picnic?

Luplow is playing in the place of Clemente. Clemente must be hurt as he hasn't played against the Reds this series.

Nahhh, no swimsuit models. This was 1962 and SI was still considered serious journalism.

It was a picnic that SI hosted yearly. My dad was in the advertising biz and got invited. They set up tables and buffet outside the OF fences at old Cleveland Municipal Stadium and did a meet and greet with Indians players and SI folk. The Yankees were taking BP and they kept bombarding us with baseballs.

I didn't realize who he was till years later, but we sat with the SI writer Dan Jenkins while munching on our hotdogs. My dad talked to him a lot (or I should say he listened to Jenkins talk). I just remembered he smelled like booze.
