    High School Musical 2?

My daughters (ages 9 & 10) are currently hosting ten friends in my basement watching the premiere of High School Musical 2. If you aren't familiar with the H.S.M. phenomenon you must not have young kids. All I know is that there are still an awful lot of extremely intelligent people employed by Disney.

    Cheers.

Chuckle... one of my buddies sent out a message saying something to the effect of "I just got home, I'm still hung over from my business trip and there are a dozen singing ten-year-olds in the house. Help!"

Yes, we have five 10 year olds spending the night at our place doing everything from watching the movies to playing the DVD game. The house is all decked out with HSM stuff and they made food from the first movie (i.e. blue gatorade for Sharpay's blue tea). It was an event two months in the making.

Actaully, as a parent, I love HSM. There are a lot worse things little girls can really get into. The shows are quite entertaining and they have a good message. And believe it or not, the music ain't half bad.

My pre-teen cousins are big fans. They're also big fans of James Blunt, though, so take from that what you will.

The Disney Channel, which aired the debut of HSM2 last night, began promoting the event in March....Yes, March.

So, for those of you who have children who missed it last night, just tell them to turn to Disney at any time during the next 8 months to catch a re-air.

My 11 year-old was eagerly anticipating the debut of this. I keep hearing news reporters say that its success could revive the musical as a film genre. I'm hoping that prediction doesn't come true.

    You're right, of course.

My comment was made firmly tongue in cheek.

I just saw the preview for the HSM movie on a movie that I rented and it was certainly cringeworthy for a 24 year old male.

I had a part in our school's production of HSM last year. I was also in Annie the year before. I have the songs from them both embedded deep in my skull.

I obviously don't have kids. I have cable, but I have no idea if I have the Disney Channel or not. I've never even heard of High School Musical.

By the way, Tom Servo, your signature is amazing.

If you have kids, particularly younger girls, High School Musical has been a phenomena for a while now.

I watched it with my 14 yr. old daughter and 4 of her friends. We had a gas. I kept trying to defend Sharpei as misunderstood (and roundly hooted for it). I just like to stir up trouble.

When the first one came out a year or so back, my daughter wanted to watch it very much. On a Sat. night, I said "what? watch some dumb made-for-TV Disney movie?". But as usual, I lost the battle and was pleasantly surprised. Been a big fan of the movie and cast ever since.

    Re: High School Musical 2?

I just watched the movie myself. I liked it a lot, thought it was very well done. I didn't think the music was very memorable; they tried to go too hip hop and modern and not as fun as the first one. But the movie itself was excellent. But what was with all the makeup on Zac Efron? He looked silly.

I haven't seen the sequel yet, but I must say I was a big fan of the first HSM
