    BA Hotsheet- Votto and Stubbs

    http://www.baseballamerica.com/today...et/264693.html

    3. Joey Votto, 1b/of, Triple-A Louisville (Reds)

Votto hit .360/.407/1.000 last week, cracking an IL-leading five home runs and 12 RBIs in six games. The Reds also have positioned the 23-year-old in left field as much as his natural position of first base this month, though he's an average-at-best defender at both spots.
    14. Drew Stubbs, of, low Class A Dayton (Reds)

Stubbs has frequented the Hot Sheet this year, but never in the top 20. Stubbs was putting up poor numbers as a leadoff man, but has moved to the middle of the order and his average is on the rise. He hit .500 last week with 2 home runs in 26 at-bats. In 68 at-bats in August he is hitting .368/.411/.647 with three home runs.

Votto keeps raking like that and he might move into "3-and-a-half A" territory

Must be hard to hit 5 homers in a week when your boss thinks you stink.

I don't think Krivsky thinks he stinks - especially not at the plate. Krivsky simply said "there's two sides to the game", implying Votto needs to continue to improve defensively.

I took that to mean he was talking about the business side . . .

Yet they keep switching him between of and 1b. Makes sense to me.

If Votto can play two positions, it will give him more opportunity to get at-bats when he's finally up with the Reds.

Yeah, I don't really get it either.

But, Krivsky's exact words were, "Joey Votto's an outstanding prospect." I think that's a slightly higher opinion than "he stinks." Just slightly.

I hope Stubbs has a similar rise as Jay Bruce had this year. That is a lot to ask, though.

At least it doesn't hurt his trade value as much anyway.

My personal theory is that WK's first choice was to trade Dunn for pitching and make a LF out of Votto. That way he could play 2008 with a $1.85 Million making Hatte and a minimum making Votto holding down 1B and LF. And yes I think the money is a bigger motivation than talent with this regime. I think Votto's slow development in LF and the lack of any decent deals for Dunn are why Votto is still in AAA. I don't believe trading Hatte to make room was ever a part of the plan.

We may now be at a point where the cheap young bats like Votto will need to be the ones dealt to get any real help for the pitching staff. We may never see him as the regular 1B in Cincy.

"Average at best defensively in LF" ...

So he's definitely better than Dunn?

I hope you're not serious. This would be like me saying: "I hope Matt Belisle goes on to a similar career as Mario Soto."

If true, this better happen soon. Each day he is in the minors is another day of his value going to waste. Whether that value is to the Reds or another team, it really doesn't matter.

Agreed I guess. But with the deadline passed, it will be the offseason. Votto would never clear waivers and its likely the guy the Reds would want for him wouldn't either.
