    Coutlangus recalled; Ramirez optioned

    Per John Fay:

    E.Z. out, Coutlangus in

Reds sent Elizardo Ramirez back to Louisville and called up Jon Coutlangus. No word on Saturday's starter.

It's Bronson Arroyo, why is that so hard to figure out. Thats why he only threw 80 pitches last night.

Good move though, that lunacy aside.

It won't be Arroyo starting Saturday, according to Fay.

But it sounds like a call-up could pitch Saturday. The Reds will keep Bronson Arroyo on his regular rest. He'll pitch Sunday.

"He volunteered to pitch Saturday," Mackanin said.

The Reds decided against it. Arroyo was so tired after six innings and 80 pitches Tuesday that he asked to come of the game.
    And from C. Trent:

Bronson Arroyo will start Sunday, with Saturday's starter still up in the air. Keep in mind that Saturday is Sept. 1. Bronson volunteered to pitch on short rest on Saturday, but because he was tired early and it's the last month of the season, Pete said he wanted to kep him on regular rest.

I still don't know how Arroyo was tired after 2 innings and gassed after 6 (80 pitches).

What is he doing? That seems odd...

2 years of Narron abuse catching up to him.

    Arroyo's arm can't take it.

I'm a fan of Coutlangus up and Ramirez down. Ramirez still isn't ready for the MLB level, if ever.

Hey, sometimes you just have one of those days.

    These guys aren't machines.

It's very rare that any pitcher has everything working at the same time. You figure out what you've got in the bullpen and make adjustments every time out there. And sometimes your bullpen sessions are completely different when you get in the game.

Happens to athletes in every sport.

    Brett Tomko for Saturday?
