If you're a 25 years old outfielder and already burned two of your option years and the organization doesn't think you can be a fourth/fifth outfielder for a couple weeks till Josh Hamilton comes back, it's time to face the music. He's got no chance of ever becoming a major league regular at this point and the organization doesn't think he's good enough for a bench job. Guys like that don't belong on the 40 man roster.

The problem they have with Dumatrait is that he will be out of options and he's never done anything but start. They have a glut of lefty relievers anyway. They only thing he can do is be a starting pitcher and I don't think any of us want to see that. They should just try and pass him through waivers off the 40 man roster now.

The reds organization ordering of Castro, Lopez,Harris and Keppinger was about as off as it could be. There's little point of acquiring talent if all your going to do with it is block or discard BETTER talent.

Dickerson is a classic AAAA player, or at least that's how the Reds feel. He reminds me of a slightly worse version of Denorfia, and he'll most likely be shipped away this offseason with little fanfare. I don't really have a problem with that.

only burned 1 option since he was added to the 40 man last off-season. he's got 2 more

he didn't get called up b/c he wasn't ready.

    You are correct sir.

It doesn't change his age. I still think he's got about as much chance of being a major league player as Aaron Herr.

I think Dickerson is the ideal 5th outfielder type.

    Power off the bench? Check.
Lots of speed and can be a pinch runner? Check.
    Great defense? Check.

I agree with you. I'm honestly curious why they didn't call him up instead of getting Ellison. The notion that he's going to "develop" from what he is seems pretty far fetched.

They can still call him up. Dickerson is on the 40 man roster, and can be a September call-up.

1st you say he's got as much chance as Aaron Herr, then you agree that he's a 5th outfield candidate and wonder why they didn't call him up. pick a side

Sorry for the confusion, there is a time difference.

Looking over his skill set, He's got as much right to claim a 5th outfield job as anybody. And there was one, right there in front of him. Deno got traded. Crosby and Freel and Wise got hurt. The major league team had a thin outfield and needed somebody to cover center. Instead of bringing up Dickerson, they choose to bring in Ellison. What's worse is during the same time frame, they promoted Jay Bruce and he pushed Dickerson out of center in AAA.

Given that the organization chose to bring in Ellison instead of promoting Dickerson, I think that pretty much kills his chances of a major league career. If they weren't going to promote him in August when they had a need for exactly that kind of player, why will they ever? This organization isn't going to use him.

This was Dickerson's first year at Louisville. The Reds may think he will need some more development at Louisville before he is a MLB player. Coats will cut down on his playing time in Louisville, though.
