As well as we're hitting in August, the Pirates are hitting better. They lead all Major League teams in AVG, Runs, and a couple of other offensive categories. It makes what Harang did to them that much more impressive. He is truly one of the top 5 pitchers in baseball over the last two years, and right now.

Did anyone just see that strike 3 call on Hart in the Brewers-Cubs game?

One of the worst I have seen all year.

    Yep...six inches outside...at least.

You're not going to see a more athletic play by a second baseman than that -- and it wins the game. If Jeter makes that play, ESPN immortalizes it.

    Brandon Phillips can play.

And I love the play by Valentin, too. In my book, he's a huge upgrade over Ross.

That may have been the guttiest win all year.

I heard Marty make the call on the way home from the Bearcats game, and thought, well, that must have been a nice play, and then I just say the replay...wow!

One of the best plays I have ever seen to win a game. Bar none.

Brandon Phillips is the real deal; what a pleasure it is to watch this guy perform!

We did, his name was Sean Casey.

Dempster just walked in a run in the bottom of the 9th, and the Brewers now trail 5-4. Bases still loaded with two outs and Mench up.

Then Mench swings at the first freakin pitch and hits a weak chopper to shortstop that ends the game with a force at second.

Re: 8/30/07 - Reds vs Pirates Game Thread

ESPN web site quotes this rule in reference to the play where the Reds 'lost' two runs:"Baseball rule 7.12 states that when a runner misses a base: "If, upon appeal, the preceding runner is the third out, no runners following him shall score. If the third out is the result of a force play, neither preceding nor following runners shall score."

That seems to pretty well cover it.

"George" was a caller to the sports talk show. He mentioned RedsZone.
