Sarasota has a double header today and its about to get underway. Homer Bailey is scheduled to start the first game. The game is available online to listen to.

Batter 2 - Curveball up and in, ball 1. FB low, ball 2. FB high and outside, ball 3. Curveball low. Walk.
Batter 3 - Curveball looking, strike 1. FB low, ball 1. Flyball out to Cody Strait. 2 outs.

It'd certainly be nice if Bailey could start exhibiting a bit better command (read: much better command).
Since the Reds called him up in June ...
- 21 walks in 28.1 big league innings (6.67 BB/9)
- 8 walks in 8.2 AAA innings (8.31 BB/9)
- 5 walks in 7.0 A+ innings (6.43 BB/9)
Now the usual disclaimer about a terribly small sample size applies here, but his last 44 innings encompass almost a full two months of pitching for him and he's allowed 34 walks. That's a 6.95 BB/9 over those last 44 innings, and while the bulk of them were in the majors, that's still a horrendous walk rate.
Now we have no idea what's going on, be it an injury issue beyond the groin, mental issues, just lousy control, some sampling of all the above or what ... but whatever it is it certainly doesn't look good at all.
