    Layover suggestions

Ok, I might want a wee bit of help here. I just delivered in San Antonio and will probably be stuck here for a couple days. Any suggestions? I really don't want to sit at the Flying J for the entire time. I figure I'll go check out the Alamo and try to find a good steak, but after that, I'm at a loss. I know we have folks who are more familiar with this town than I am. I'll try to check back in here, but that depends on if I can get on the internet terminal here. I can be reached via cell though, 513-263-0982. I'll be on for a few more minutes and then my shower will be ready.

The best steak I've had in town is at Texas Land and Cattle, which has several locations, including the Riverwalk.

    201 North St. Mary's

    San Antonio, Texas 78205

    60 N.E. Loop 410

If you're going to The Alamo, you could hit that TL&C location on The Riverwalk. They're both downtown and it's an easy walk between them.

The Riverwalk is the #2 tourist attraction in Texas, so if you're visiting the Alamo, which is #1, you might as well get your money's worth and check them both out.

I'll go ahead and post this much and follow up with more.

With 2 days, you could probably check out the Missions National Park, which is actually in 4 locations. If you like history, that's a good way to kill a few hours.

You could also check out our local AA baseball team, the San Antonio Missions. They have a home game tonight at 7:05, but they're away tomorrow. Their stadium is about due south of downtown on US Highway 90. Take I-35 or I-37 south or Loop 410, whichever is closest to where you are, to get to 90.

Another possibility downtown, if you want to do something touristy is to go up in the Tower of the Americas. There's a restaurant up there, but it's on the fancy side. The observation deck at the TOA is a cheaper ticket than a meal at the restaurant and the view is unbeatable on a clear day or night. Not sure how it would be on a cloudy day like today.

    You've got PM.

If you like Mexican food, even a little bit, you should get some while you're here. Taco Cabana is a nice Mexican fast-food chain with locations all over town. It's many notches above Taco Bell on the quality scale.

The other food suggestion I would make is to get some Barbecue. My two favorite chains for that are Rudy's and County Line. You'll see a lot of Bill Miller BBQ locations in town, but those will give you a lackluster BBQ experience.
