Justice is finally served. Someone in the media has noticed Harang

It's about time. Now the press realizes that the Cincinnati Reds have a #1 pitcher on their staff.

Is there a more underrated starting pitcher in baseball than Reds ace Aaron Harang? Over the past two seasons, he's 30-15. He leads the majors in innings pitched (430). He's tied with Brandon Webb and Brad Penny for the most wins by an NL pitcher in that span, and trails only Jake Peavy in strikeouts (396).

"I just saw Ben Sheets and Harang in the last week," one scout says. "And if I had my choice, I'd take Harang. All he does is throw strikes. He's Brandon Webb, man. He's a horse."
    Tim McCarver: Baseball Quotes
I remember one time going out to the mound to talk with Bob Gibson. He told me to get back behind the batter, that the only thing I knew about pitching was that it was hard to hit.

Thank goodness - it is so overdue. It's still shocking that he got not one vote for the Cy Young last year.

How long before ESPN gets on the band wagon and asks why we don't trade him to the yankees/red sox?

    I'd term it an embarrassment.

Championships for MY teams in my lifetime:
    Cincinnati Reds - 75, 76, 90
    Chicago Blackhawks - 10, 13
    University of Kentucky - 78, 96, 98, 12
    Cincinnati Bengals - None
    Chicago Bulls - 91, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98

This year I could see it go unnoticed just because the team has been in the bottom 3 of the division.. but last year the Reds were in contention 3/4ths of the season. Why he didn't get votes last year just baffles me.. and hopefully that changes this year.

Jayson Stark also wrote a piece last spring about Harang being unnoticed. It's quite scary to see who Harang stacks up with.

Now, if only the local media would begin noticing him, as well, he might actually get a couple of Cy Young votes.

Nah, if Harang were a REALLY good pitcher then the Reds would be winners.

Hey..it's the argument used on Dunn

So your saying Adam Dunn's a good outfielder?

I think harang is criminally underrated, yes, but I also think he's a victim of his team's performance, and the Reds have only themselves to blame for that.

If he were on the Yankees or Red Sox or Dodgers, he'd be getting more attention, not because those teams are well-known, but because they're perpetual contenders.
There is no such thing as a pitching prospect.

The same phrase keeps going through my mind, over and over.

    "This generation's Mario Soto."

Had Soto played with the Yankees or Dodgers in his day, he would have been perennially in the running for the Cy Young award. But, he was doomed to play with some sub-par and average Reds teams.
Same seems to be happening with Harang. Hopefully, that trend will take a turn for the much better in the near future.
I would love to see Harang facing a Jeter or Ortiz for the last out of a World Series.

How can we put all the blame on the national media?

The Reds broadcasters and beat writers voted Bronson Arroyo The 2006 Reds Pitcher Of The Year, and one even gave Bronson a vote for league MVP.

NOBODY in the local media had enough sense to give Harang a vote for ANYTHING.

That should be enough for all of us to take whatever the local media says with grain of salt.

Well Bronson did play for the Red Sox once, so that means he's better
