    Steinbrenner reportedly relinquishing control

    http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slu...v=st&type=lgns

Interesting that a few years ago Steinbrenner announced plans to give the team to his (reportedly well-qualified) son-in-law due to lack of interest from his own children...and then his daughter got divorced. Makes me wonder if that's why the team wasn't handed over sooner, and it also makes me wonder what his sons plan to do with the team.

He's in quite poor health; many believe he's owner in name only at this point. He's never announced plans to retire before. What reason is there not to believe this?

This doesn't surprise me much at all.

Its sad, but it has been very apparent that "The Boss" has been less and less in control of his own mental faculties for the past few years. I've really wondered exactly how much he has factored into the decisionmaking process lately.

Because he's a dictator. Dictators are always in charge until they are deposed or die. He hasn't been deposed and is still alive, so he will still be influencing the Yankees, whether he is in his office day to day or not.

His sons will be running the team. Of course he's going to continue to exert control as much as he is able. But all things considered, I think it's foolish to believe that his abilities allow him very much at this point.

Honestly, I have no idea about his health, but I do have 34 years of experience with his running the Yankees.

It would be interesting to see if his heirs will continue to own the club or sell out. I'm not sure who would own New Yankee Stadium but along with YES, the Yankees would fetch a pretty penny. Gussie Busch's son didn't want to run the Cards so he sold it to De Witt & Co.

I hope for the sake of the Yankees, this does not turn into a Paul Brown/Mike Brown legacy.

Yea, it'd be really sad if the Yankees stunk again :
