    True Break Up Stories

Either dumper or the dumpee. Please no Penthouse fantasy types

My now ex-wife decided after I found a little note scribbled by some dude that "they just sat and looked at the stars and talked" informed me she just couldn't do it anymore. That was it, she wasn't going to try anymore. Of course, she was the one who stayed out all night, so far be it from me to find the note while I was looking for a lighter.

Pregnancy when the significant other said it wasn't yours (oh, to have DNA testing back then) was an interesting way to find out you'd been dumped.

I pulled a bad breaker-upper stunt. The lady and I had broke up, but she was getting all emotional about things and would not continue in a common group we belonged to. So, I went to visit her at her home to try to finish things off once and for all, and I just laid into her, saying several mean things that took me a while to smooth over.

    Re: True Break Up Stories

I met this girl back in college. It was just about love at first sight for me. We had a whirlwind romance that lasted two weeks. Then her ex-boyfriend called and asked her to marry him.

She returned to him and I was devastated.

But, it didn't last. She broke it off with him after about a year. I called her back up and we started the whirlwind romance all over again.

We've been married 15 years now.

I broke up with my last girlfriend based on the result of flipping a coin. The first flip was heads, but I was scared it was a fluke. Ten flips later, six out of eleven were tails, so I elected to dump her.

    Re: True Break Up Stories

I've had some ridiculous breakup stories.

When I was younger, I once broke up with a girl because her dad was a high-level officer at WPAFB in Dayton, and she kept hinting and teasing that she knew big secrets there (intimating about aliens/Roswell), but refused to tell me. I, being insanely interested in the topic, would've been fine if she never brought it up, or just dropped it after initially bringing it up, but she kept on, so I left her high and dry at dinner.

I stopped seeing a girl once who told me that people who don't have their car headlights on by 2:00pm, regardless of the weather conditions, are idiots and are flirting with danger and the lives of others on the road. I disagreed, and she became rather belligerently insulting l so I kiboshed that one.

There's a few others, but I'll stop here for now. Hah.

That's good stuff there, SunDeck. Pretty neat story.

    Re: True Break Up Stories

How about breaking off an engagement with a girl you'd never even dated?

Right about the time I was finishing up college, a girl I knew from a part-time job invited me to her birthday party. Nothing unusual about the party itself, although she was being very flirty. Then, toward the end of the night, she informed me she was ready to get married, like now, and I was the one she'd chosen. And she didn't mean "get married" as a euphemism for sex, she meant courthouse, vows, the whole thing.

Now, I'm not all that and she wasn't bad-looking, nor did she need a green card; despite lacking the usual symptoms, I drew the only reasonable conclusion, which was that she was higher than a kite.

But as fate would have it, I'd left a jacket I liked at her apartment, and went back the next day to get it. I figured the whole thing had been a big joke, and what the heck, I can take one. But no, she informed me that she had been perfectly serious. None of this "taking it slow" stuff. I, of course, declined the offer.

And then, two weeks later, I saw her in the mall. With her husband.

    Re: True Break Up Stories

My most recent breakup was summer before last ('06). I got dumped the day after the Ohio State Bar Exam concluded. I sat for the exam on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday -- got dumped that Friday night in a parking lot outside a restaurant in Toledo. Reasons given included that she felt that I wasn't making the relationship a priority and that I was being emotionally distant.

I guess she did me a favor by waiting until AFTER the exam was over to break the news to me -- but it still was a kick in the gut.

Before or after the meal? Did you pay? Inquiring minds want to know.

But go figure you didn't make the relationship a priority while you're studying and were emotionally distant for that type of exam. I sat for the CPA exam right after graduating from college and had little time but to work and study if I had any hopes of passing the exam. I was married to the aforementioned ex-wife at the time, BTW. But her problem was related to being a tramp, as also stated above.

It was after the meal, and I had paid -- it was at Bravos, so at least I didn't get soaked too badly for the last night out.

    You're lucky she waited.

I don't buy excuses like that. They're usually rationalizations for someone who just wants to date other people.

    Re: True Break Up Stories

In a long distance relationship, a girl broke up with me over the internet (I had called her and she told me to get on there) stating that I acted like I didn't care anymore, blah blah. She was acting weird, like I had to prove it to her that I did.

So I drove home. It is about a 3 hour drive, but I got home in about 2. Oh yeah, also got pulled over and received a speeding ticket.

Finally get there to see what the heck was wrong with her, and after about 20 minutes of crying I find out that she was cheating on me. But she won't tell me with who. I ended up finding out. Bunch of icky drama.

About 2 months later I started dating one of her friends, who is now my wife.

    Re: True Break Up Stories

I dated a co-worker a few years ago (mistake number one) and then found out that she was a Jehovah's Witness and was trying to recruit me. She wasn't going to go any farther with anyone who didn't share her faith, and I wasn't willing to make the switch, so that kind of ended rather abruptly.

Should have asked her to reimburse you

    Re: True Break Up Stories

When I was 19 years old, I had been dating a 17-year-old for about two weeks, and she suckered me into taking her to the winter formal. I paid for the dinner and the photos and everything since she had no money, and on the way back from the dance she was crying. I asked her what was wrong, but she was crying too much to answer, so she basically made me play charades to figure out that she was dumping me after I had spent over $200 to go to a dance I didn't even want to attend. The joke's on her, though--she now has a kid and doesn't know who the father is, and I'm more than 50% sure it's not mine.

    The JOKE is on her?

Like that's somehow funny, or poetic justice?

And it's FUNNY that you have a 50% chance to be the father?

I'm not in the mood to get banned today for telling you here what I'd tell you to your face. I imagine there are plenty of other people reading this who get my drift, even if you don't.
