That didn't take long Red Sox already up 1-0.

So as I was watching the start of the game, my slow brain kicked in and realized both managers played for the Reds - albeit one season each. Is this the first time two former Reds have managed in the Series against each other?

this series has sure been a contrast in styles. the Red Sox have sat back and watched pitches and taken walks. The Rockies have come up hacking away. They've swung at so many first pitches, I'd never putone over the plate on the first pitch.

How about 1986 when Davey Johnson mnaged against John McNamra? LOL.

or...kind of 1976...Sparky vs. Billy Martin. Sparky was still a Red, and he never played for them though, only managed.

In 1928, the Miller Huggins-led Yankees went up against the Bill McKechnie-led Cardinals. Huggins was a scrappy 2nd baseman with the Reds from '04 to '09. McKechnie played with them briefly in '16 and '17, and later managed the Reds.

That is all I have found, so far.

EDIT: The year before, Huggins went up against the Pirates and Donnie Bush - who managed the Reds in '33.
And the year before, Rogers Hornsby and the Cardinals went up against the Yankees - but, like the case of Bush, this was after the fact.
So far, the only case I have found where two ex-Reds have managed against each other in a Series is '28.

It appears that the Rockies didn't eat their Wheaties.

Very funny. I think it's their eyesight, because they're hacking away at everything. Tulowitski just swung at the first pitch which might have been in the dirt, 6 inches off the plate had he not swung.

Is it disgusting to anyone else that Jon Lester just got a standing ovation that was quite loud.... in Colorado?

    Tonight's game through 6:

    Lester 92 pitches to 23 Rockies batters, Delcarmen 5 to1 batter, for a total 4.04 P/PA.

Cook has thrown 68 pitches to 22 Red Sox batters, for 3.09 pitches per plate appearance.

    they're hacking away at everything.
Actually, that means the Rockies are the more patient hitters tonight.

I'm genuinely glad to know it isn't just me. MLB either has to find a way to put a moratorium on sweeps or start taking a serious look at how to put the leagues on equal footing. Yeah, yeah, the Cards won last year and a diamond can turn up in any rough, but I think it's safe to say at this point that there is a real problem.

I don't know who this "Lonestar" is, but I'm pretty sure it's Hanson in disguise.
