I agree with this tactic, but realistically, in this day and age teams rarely trade pitching without getting some pitching back. If they are serious about getting position players back, I doubt that they'll find many better deals than Hamilton and Encarnacion. The Reds would probably need to add a lesser pitcher for their system. Maybe Maloney, Wood, Lecure or Roenicke.

All it took to get Denny Neagle in 1999 was Bret Boone, and that was before Boone's roid explosion.

All I'm saying is that there is a precendent for this sort of thing.

    Boone and pitcher Mike Remlinger.

Yeah, but Denny's train whistle was worth at least TWO Mike Remlingers.

Remlinger was a pretty darn effective component to a pretty darn effective team. The Braves' scouting department did a better job evaluating Remlinger than they did Boone.

Let's see...what do you offer for Erik Bedard.

Well, the sun and the moon. You start with Homer Bailey. You finish with Josh Hamilton or Encarnacion and any other two prospects in the system not named "Bruce" or "Cueto".

What about Phillips, Bailey, and Wood?

    Neither is going to happen.
If it does, and you are forced to chew off both hands, will you at least mash your forehead into the keyboard and post that to let everyone know you're acknowledging that you were wrong.

That's an interesting idea. Obviously, Keppinger could slide to 2B. For some reason, I don't see Phillips being in the discussion though.

I'd still do this trade though.

He's already an evil supergenious, so maybe they can hook him up with a Stephen Hawking-type rig.

He could type using one of those mouth bit things.

Bailey, Hamilton and any two prospects (other than the two you named) seems like a little much to give up to me.... If they came asking for Bailey, Hamilton, Stubbs and Frazier do you really do that deal?

Most likely the Orioles will move Tejeda this offseason and will need a shortstop replacement. You lose this magnitude of a bat and you have to replace the offense.

So if I'm the Reds, would a Dunn for Bedard deal work for both sides especially if the Orioles move Tejeda? Obviously the deal would probably be expanded but does it make sense?

Reds can shift Hamilton to LF and go with Freel and Hopper in center with Griffey in right and Bruce being Griffey's caddy.

Krusty, why would you have Bruce on the bench to play Freel or Hopper in CF?

I would do Dunn for Bedard in a second.

The O's would have no interest in Phillips as they have Brian Roberts.

I would explore a deal centered around Votto. Offer them Votto, Keppinger, and any prospect in the system not named Bruce, Cueto or Bailey. See if they bite on that.
