Eric Milton files for free agency

    Milton files for free agency
Left-hander's tenure in Cincinnati likely ends with move
    By Mark Sheldon / MLB.com

CINCINNATI -- Eric Milton hasn't thrown a pitch since May, but his three-year stint with the Reds likely concluded on Tuesday when he filed to become a free agent.

Milton, 32, was 0-4 with a 5.17 ERA in six starts before going on the disabled list with a torn ligament in his left elbow. He had season-ending Tommy John elbow reconstruction surgery on June 15.

A former All-Star who successfully pitched for the Twins from 1998-2003 and the Phillies in 2004, Milton signed a three-year, $25.5 million free agent contract with the Reds on Dec. 27, 2004. It didn't pay off, as the left-hander went 16-27 with a 5.83 ERA in 66 starts for Cincinnati. In 2005, he allowed a club-record and National League-leading 40 home runs.

In 2006, Milton had two stints on the DL -- including one for a sore elbow that required arthroscopic surgery on Sept. 22.

    Finally....he'll be somebody else's problem

I'd offer him a minor league contract with an invite to spring training...absolutely nothing guaranteed though.

I don't want him back in any aspect.

Sorry....not to sound bitter, and it's nothing personal to him as a person, but what a waste of money and a roster spot he ended up being.

Moving on would be better for everyone

I don't want him to smell the Reds organization. Don't care if he came back for free. Put your mistakes behind you and don't look back (though this wasn't WK's mistake).

I never thought that would end. No more paying 10 million a year to be emotionally beaten every 5 days!

Y'know... the guy could be pretty good batting practice for Reds hitters in ST. Just like Paul Wilson last year.
It's absolutely pathetic that people can't have an opinion from actually watching games and supplementing that with stats. If you voice an opinion that doesn't fit into a black/white box you will get completely misrepresented and basically called a tobacco chewing traditionalist...

I hope he does well wherever he lands. It just wasn't a good fit in Cincy and will never be.

He's now in "He Who Cannot be Named" territory for me.

All remnants of his existance must be erased.

Can they retire numbers because of sheer suckitude?

If he ends up anywhere but in Cincinnati he will go something like 16-9 with an ERA of 3.6.

If he stays with Cincinnati, he will have a fantastic ST, then he will implode. It's just going to happen that way if he stays with the Reds. Please go away Eric Milton. It's nothing personal, but you are cursed as a Red. Go somewhere else, pitch well, do good things.

Nah, hopefully Billy Hatcher can have his #22 back.

The Reds were 10-3 in games I attended last season--10-1 in games not started by Eric Milton! (The only other loss was the extra-inning loss to Cleveland in June.) One of the losses by Milton was a game at Pittsburgh in which the Reds were down 3-0 before I even got to my seat!
