    Padres may deal Peavy?

    "Padres may deal Peavy?
Some of the whispers heard in the lobby of the Hyatt Grand Cypress had teams with a quality pitcher on their rosters, like the San Diego Padres with Jake Peavy, for example, letting other teams know that those pitchers are available. Part of the reason is scarcity of quality pitching on the free agent market. Regardless of the motives, the teams' sincerity for actually following through on trading away their best pitchers is being called into question. So far, the Twins have not let it be known that Johan Santana is available. -- Boston Herald

    Love to have Peavy!!!

I would love to have him, but I would not want to be the team to pay him. I don't want to know what it would take to get him....

OK, this is getting out of hand now. Every baseball reporter seems to be coming up with leaked stories about top-line pitchers that *might* be dealt if the price is right.

    I think it's all bait-and-switch.

I can't think of one good reason why the Pads would trade Peavy. They can afford him, and are in contention mode. Makes zero sense.

This just in, 99% of baseball players are available for the right price. That so-and-so is available is not a freaking story. There are way too many lazy baseball reporters out there.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

I would imagine it would take an offer of Bailey AND Bruce to even get them on the phone. Fugghetaboutit

It would only make sense if the Pads decided they didn't want to spend $20M per season on him.

Ok, would you trade Bailey and Bruce for Peavy?

I mean, he is signed cheaply for the next two years for $8 and $9 million, respectively. Then, the Reds could make a gametime decision on whether to resign him for $20 MM/per or trade him for a boatload.

With Peavy/Harang/Arroyo, the Reds are instant favorites to win the division and maybe even the pennant. Moreover, the everyday lineup would be undisturbed.

    Yes, over and over yes.

Peavy is one of those rare pitchers that is actually as good as his hype.

that doesn't matter- no chance do the Pads do that deal.

Supposedly the Pads and Yanks discussed Hughes and Cabrera for Peavy, so maybe the Reds could get away with Bailey and Hamilton? THAT, I'd do in a san diego minute.
