    - Install Pie in CF, Soto at C, and Cedeno at SS
    - Sign Barry Bonds to play LF, with Soriano moving to RF
    - Keep Jacque Jones as your 4th OF who splits times with Pie and Bonds as necessary
    - Make Sean Marshall the #4 starter and Ryan Dempster the #5 starter
    - Name Wuertz the closer (no platoon split),
    - Keep Marmol in the relief ace roll
    - Resign Eyre if he opts out, if not, go after Ray King or other reasonably priced LOOGY

Bonds would make the Cubs the hands down NL favorites for 2008 in my opinion.

EDIT: I forgot about Matt Murton, much like the Cubs themselves. I trade him somewhere for an arm so that his value can actually be realized.

Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Re: GM Project 2007 - Chicago Cubs

I'd go in to 2008 with Pie in mind as my CF, and Soto as my starting catcher. Soto can flat out hit. The Cubs big problem is they see Zambrano as their Ace, and he just isn't an ace pitcher. he's a very good #2, but he's a tick or two below Harang, and not just because Harang seems to beat him all the time. He walks too many guys and he's too damned emotional at times for his own good.

The Reds right now have a little depth at LH setup (it may not be the best depth, but it's depth) Cout, Bray, Stanton, Guardado (if he re-signs) and Pelland at AAA. might be a fit for a trade, though it isn't likely. Oh, and Theriot should never, ever get 500 AB's again.

-Take RedsManRick's advice about Marshall and Dempster
-Howry becomes the closer, Marmol remains the late-inning fireman
-Stick Matt Murton in RF and let him sink or swim.
    -Pie takes over in CF
-Figure out a way to get Miguel Tejada from the Orioles.
    -Make Cedeno a late-inning defensive replacement and/or part of a 2B platoon.
