Would You Trade Jay Bruce For Dan Haren?

Would you make the deal for Dan Haren if Jay Bruce was offered in a player for player deal? Haren is pretty cheap and locked up for 3 more years.

I would have to think that this would make the Reds instant favorites in the NL Central or, at least, very close to it.

No, I wouldn't even think about it. Not Bruce, maybe Hammy who I would rather not deal either but I could see the sense in it.

I would do it. However, if Dan Haren weren't so affordable through 2010, I wouldn't.

that's the rub for me as well. His contract along with his ability makes me think I would have to do the deal.

Re: Would You Trade Jay Bruce For Dan Haren?

    Absolutely.

Jay Bruce is going to be a very good hitter in all likelihood, and may end up being a perennial all-star, but the Reds will not win in the next 2-3 years without excellent starting pitching. Odds are Haren will bring that to the table.

I'm not too concerned with 4-5 years down the road. That's what the draft is for. The Reds can win now with the everyday players they have if they add a pitcher like Haren. And Haren is cheap for the next three years I believe, leaving money to go get offensive help if needed.

The way I see it, the Reds have 3 year window.....they have Harang and Arroyo for that long. They also have a really nice starting 8.

They now have the beginning of a better BP.

Do ANYTHING to win over the next 3 years.....lots of drafts happen over that time with chances to replace Bruce.

Hamilton has two decent back-ups in CF......and it is easier to find outfielders than it is to find young quality starting pitchers.

I would do this in a heartbeat for another reason....it means the Reds get a great starter and get to keep Bailey and Cueto.

Yes and I would also try to pry Harden away aswell.

Jay Bruce, Tyler Pelland, Carlos Guevara, and Michael Griffin to A's

Dan Haren, Rich Harden, and cash to Reds

Then at the Trade Deadline or Free Agency I would look to acquire/sign Carl Crawford because Junior and/or Dunn may not be here

I hate to give up Bruce, but in a straight up deal for Haren I think I would.
"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

As much as I like Bruce..... yes, I would do the deal. Haren would be locked up rather cheaply for those "window years" we have Harang and Arroyo. Haren could be the difference maker.

    We need pitching, period.

I guess if that's what it came down to....they'd have to do it.

Dan Haren on this team would be absolutely huge!
