    Reds Very Active Per Jerry Cranick

    • The Reds need pitching, but they don't have a lot of money left after signing closer Francisco Cordero to a five-year deal. So Cincinnati is talking trade with a bunch of teams here in Nashville and using some of its young position players as bait for a starter. Jay Bruce is out of the question, and Joey Votto would be tough to get, but the Reds are listening on third baseman Edwin Encarnacion and center fielder Josh Hamilton. The Cubs are a natural fit for Hamilton, but Sean Marshall isn't likely to get it done. One possible fit for Encarnacion: the Giants, who may need a third baseman if incumbent Pedro Feliz declines the team's salary arbitration offer.

    Edwin and Hamilton traded away, I can live with that if we get good return!

    Trading Hamilton to the cubs would be the worst idea ever.

    Hamilton is a future stud. Don't trade him. He is one of the five best prospects in this organization. Yes, I still consider him a prospect, because last year was his first year back in a long time.
    If you can't build a winning team with that core a fire-sale isn't the solution. Selling the franchise, moving them to Nashville and converting GABP into a used car lot is.

    Hamilton and EE can be easily replaced short term and long term. Bruce/Hopper can play center and Cantu/Keppinger can handle third.

    Trade both if it nets a #2 starter!

    Yeah. Rich Hill for Hamilton is very good. Hill does give up some HR's but he should be entering his prime and can have a 4.00 ERA and 1.20 WHIP and almost a K per inning pitched

    That's gutless. As a gm, it's your job to make your team better, not wring your hands over how you may be helping some other team in the process. A pitcher like Hill would be far more valuable to the Reds than Hamilton is.

    I thought about this at first, but if we get Hill for Hamilton, the division should be won outright by the Reds. That would leave the Cubs with a terrible rotation behind Zambrano.

    My head tells me to do Hamilton for Hill

    My heart tells me otherwise, because i've got this feeling that Hamilton is gonna be a big time player.

    ...Would any of you have the same problem of trading Hamilton in the division if it was to say the Pirates? Like I don't know.... Hamilton for Ian Snell?

    I'd love to have Snell, but I don't know if i'd give Hamilton for him.

    He's mid 20s, gets 200+ innings and a sub 4 era.

    But you'd do Hill? Snell and Hill are extremely similar statistically...
