Nationals shopping Austin Kearns and Felipe Lopez for starting pitching

I just immediatley laughed hysterically when I read this blurb on rotoworld. Maybe Bowden can package them together for some good relief pitching?

MLB.com reports that the Nationals are shopping Austin Kearns and Felipe Lopez for starting pitching.

Kearns is more expendable after Monday's trade for Elijah Dukes gave the Nationals four outfielders for three spots. Washington is said to be interested in Mike Pelfrey of the Mets and Kevin Slowey of the Twins.
"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

    Because :

    2008:$5M, 2009:$8M, 2010:$10M club option ($1M buyout)

For a guy who can't get his slugging percentage above .450 most seasons

I think it all goes back to the shoulder injury. And now Ray King loses weight. Thanks for nothing Ray.

I don't know, he is still one of the best fright fielders in baseball. Granted a whole lot of that value comes from the defensive side of things.... but he is still very valuable.

    I wouldn't do this deal.

    Just relaese majewski.

    We're better off without Kearns.

With his contract, he has negative value.

I wouldn't say negative value. He offers little to the Reds current team, but I'm sure plenty of teams would be willing to spend the required 14M over 2 years for his services. Look at Guillen. I'll take Kearns over him and he's going to get 12M annually. In this market, his contract is pretty reaosnable.

I agree. Kearns still has plenty of value.

A lot of folks on this board consider the injured Freel to have value on the market (which I question). Kearns is definitely more valuable than Freel.
Thank you Walt and Bob for going for it in 2010-2014!
