If that happens, I would take my chances with a Hatteberg/Cantu platoon and use the roster spot for something else.

I'd move Dunn to 1st, Griffey to left and try and find a RH hitting RF.

I like Whitney a lot, but I liked him a lot more before the basketball accident. It's taken several years to come back from it and even this year, his success was after dropping back to low A. Apparently he still has some problems with the leg and he has never hit above A ball. No question he has a power bat and was a special hitter before the injury, but there is no way he provides anything from the bench for a mlb team that wants to contend.

you're looking at last year's list. Shelly Duncan is now on 40 man roster, and can't be picked in this year's Rule 5 draft.

    Hi, I'm Austin Kearns....

I'd consider that kid Bruce into the lineup somehow?

No problem with going with a platoon of Hatteberg and Cantu at lst base. Come 2009, your outfielder could be Dunn (he will get an extension from the Reds), Hamilton and Bruce.

Who's at first? Worry about that in 2009. The Reds are playing to win in 2008.

Heard somewhere that Jamie D'Antona wasn't protected by Arizona.

He'd be worth a pick, IMO.

Votto might be traded, but Bedard ain't the one coming back.

to show how tough Rule 5 is to predict: when you open this link, you'll notice that this website lists only one out of the four decent Rule 5 picks last year -- Soria. There's no DRays report (ergo no Hamilton mention) but the other teams are represented, yet there's no mention of, say, Burton.

If Votto's being traded, it's not going to be for a prospect.
