    Hernandez-off

OK, for all of you looking for Wayne to land a free agent to provide depth/innings, which Hernandez would you prefer?

Livan? -- assume he's relatively cheap, but would require 2 years to come to Cincy -- let's say 2 years, 6.75 mill)

    Runelvys? -- 40-man spot, 1 year, 1.5 mill

    I'll take Livan.

    But it's close.

    Re: Hernandez-off

I wouldn't use a roster spot on either.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Livan as long as WK thinks we can afford him (not hamper our budget)

Although if we can get Runelvys on a minor league deal, I'd do both because you can never have enough pitching.

I would rather sign no one than Livan Hernandez. So I would go with Runelvys, but only by default.

I'll take Livan, but only if it means Orlando is coming too.

    Re: Hernandez-off

Livan-- and only partially because his name sounds cool in the old Elton John song.

    You know which one...

"... And his name is a Livan,
And he is a good man.
And his name is a Livan
And he is a good, good man.
    And Livan, Livan, Livan..."

    (/wrong lyrics)

He pitches long even if he's not particularly effective, meaning he can save the pen. Which, in turn, means the pen is fresher for winnable games. Which, in turn, means the young arms can be protected, at least a bit. Which means, in turn, more wins.

    I hope.

........Oh, you meant Hernandez, not Fernandez?

In that case, I think I'll pass.
