Andruw Jones: 2 years, 36 million to the Dodgers

Apparently we are underpaying Alex Gonzalez BIG TIME.

I know that Jones plays an incredible CF, but 18 million a year for a guy coming off a season where he hit .222/.311/.413 is something I can't begin to wrap my head around right now.

I agree, he hit .221 in a contract year what does that say about his motivation?

The Dodgers sure love them some over-priced, under-performing OFers.

It is nice knowing you can have a bad season and get 18 million.

Despite our OF glut, I'd be offering something to LA for Matt Kemp right now.

It seems like the Dodgers made this deal based upon his 50 home run season rather than his season last year. If he continues to struggle this may go down as one of the worst deals ever.

The Dodgers. The worst use of big payroll dollars in sports. Proof that it takes more than a pocketbook to win.

Agreed, it's sickening how much money they flush. Better them than us I suppose...

The 2 year part of it lessens the blow a lot. It's not like they committed $125 million to him.

Exactly. Plus, you can't accuse Jones of stepping it up because he was in the last year of a contract.

That's right, if Jones tanks this season, at least the fans can't complain that he's less motivated after signing that deal.

It seems as if the Reds got the best FA deal so far this offseason (Cordero).

Adam Dunn is probably smiling. This means he'll get at least 18 million next year if he's willing to shop himself.
[Phil ] Castellini celebrated the team's farm system and noted the team had promising prospects who would one day be great Reds -- and then joke then they'd be ex-Reds, saying "of course we're going to lose them". #SellTheTeamBob

I don't know about that. I love Adam Dunn but Andruw Jones is a multiple Gold Glove winning CFer and while Dunn has been very consistant with hitting 40 HRs a year he's never touched 50 - and Jones did that playing the great majority of games in a pitcher's parks. $18M may be pushing it even if he hires Boros as an agent.

    Jones to the Dodgers, eh?

Post #8 in in this thread.

"If I had to guess, I'd say he ends up out in LA with the Dodgers. There's plenty of room to roam in the OF in LA, they've got $$$ to overpay, and Raffy Furcal is out there."

I just hope that stops people from whining about Dunn's contract for 2008. He's a bargain at what he will be getting.
