How about these guys for veteran depth?

With the big time acquisition of Cordero to bolster the BP, what about filling out the rest of the roster with these guys? No there not superstars, but could provide enough depth to give us a shot at the playoffs, so here's my 2cents.

    1) Mark Loretta-he's a RH bat, can play all 4 IF positions and most importantly provides leadership in the clubhouse, as well as spelling Hatte/Votto at 1st base...he could be had for the same $$$ as the A.Boone signing 1yr @1million.

2)Brett Tomko-he's a RHSP/RHRP-he could be our 5th/6th starter giving us depth in the rotation as well as long reliever out of the BP. face it its a long year, and he could throw 120-150 innings easily, reducing the IP of the other guys.

3)Matt Clement-guy coming off shoulder surgery, former #3 in the rotation could be had for an incentive laden contract.

4)LaTroy Hawkins-RHRP who can be that 6-8 inning guy and truly give us a dominant BP, something that this team has sorely lacked, if given the lead after 6 with (Cordero,Burton,Weathers,Hawkins) we would be hard pressed to give up leads.

Hawkins would be fine, but he will be too expensive. I don't really see a point in Loretta as long as Freel and Keppinger are around. Matt Clement doesn't scream "win now" to me, but I wouldn't mind if he was cheap. Tomko has been discussed at length.

I would take 3 and 4 at a given price, but Hawkins wants 2 yrs for 7 mil. Don't know if we have that to give.

If you're willing to gamble on someone coming back from a serious injury like Clement, why not Bartolo Colon?

I would certainly take a chance on Hawkins. The others...not so much.

I'm not too opposed to signing Tomko to a minor league deal and letting him compete for the fifth spot - nothing guaranteed though that would give me any doubts about cutting him out of Spring Traing. I'd still look to add two better starter options by some manner.

If he hasn't signed elsewhere, I'd love the Reds to pick up Marcus Giles. After two down years he'd be uber cheap, but he still has a career OPS just a shade under .800.

I'm guessing his two down years is more reflective of his abilities that his (rumoured) past steroid years.

I have a feeling that Bartolo Colon would enjoy Skyline Chili a little too much.

Who's next? Livan Hernandez? Russ Ortiz? Derek Lowe? Rob Lowe?

I think we need to have Derek Lowe, Kameron Loe, Mark Lowe, Adam Loe(wen), Mike Lowe(ll), and Noah Low(ry) all on the same team at the same time.
