Vote for your top five actors of all time.

If I missed one you can bring him into the discussion. I don't like Tom Hanks, but I'll put him on anyway

Meant for the title to say "top five actors of all time"

Re: Who is the best Actor of all time?

    Cary Grant

North By Northwest is one of the top ten films of all time.

EDIT: I didn't mean to imply that Grant was the best actor of all time, but rather that his name should be on the list.

Re: Vote for your top ten actors of all time.

    1. Marlon Brando
    2. Christian Bale
    3. Bobby D
    4. Al Pacino
    5. Ed Norton

Brando for "The Godfather," "Apocalypse Now," "On the Waterfront," and "Last Tango in Paris." The breadth and depth of his career is simply astonishing.

Christian Bale for his excellent character acting abilities. His performances in "The Machinist," "Harsh Times," and "American Psycho" sealed his quality in my mind.

Bobby D for "Goodfellas" and "Casino," but ESPECIALLY for "The Deer Hunter," "Taxi Driver," "Raging Bull," "Mean Streets," and "The Untouchables." Unfortunate the path that he has chosen for his career over the past 10 years or so. He hasn't put forth an especially note-worthy performance since 1997's "Cop Land."

Al Pacino for "Serpico," "The Godfather," "Scent of a Woman," "Glengarry Glenn Ross," "Donnie Brasco," "Any Given Sunday," "Scarface," and "Insomnia." The only thing keeping Pacino from ranking higher is that he often seems to play the same character in every movie. His affectations in his later work ceased to change.

Ed Norton for "Primal Fear," "American History X," "25th Hour," "Kingdom of Heaven," and "Fight Club." What an amazing actor. His performance as the leper-stricken King Baldwin IV is one of the greatest supporting acting roles I have ever seen. "Primal Fear" was also an amazing performance, especially considering it was his acting debut on the big-screen. At the end of that movie, when he reveals his true macabre nature, is one of the biggest surprises I have ever had at the movies.

The rest of my Top 10:

    6) Clive Owen - "Children of Men"
    7) Morgan Freeman - "The Shawshank Redemption"
    8) Bill Murray - Comedic Genius- "Caddyshack" & Later dramatic excellence- "Lost in Translation"
    9) Denzel Washington- "Training Day"
    10) Paul Giamatti - "Private Parts"

Clint Eastwood would be at the top of my list.

    You also need:

    John Wayne
    Robert Redford
    Morgan Freeman
    Pots and Kettles

Re: Vote for your top ten actors of all time.

Harrison Ford and Tom Cruise would have to make the list based on Box Office receipts I would think. Probably should add Will Smith and Kevin Costner as well.

    No John Wayne?

My personal 5 in no particular order are:

    Eastwood
    Hackman
    Duvall
    Freeman
    Hanks

I'd say Harrison Ford and Paul Newman who arent even on the list could act circles around most those listed.
