    Redszone Community Prospect Vote #21

Vote for the player who you think is the Reds #21 prospect (the best prospect who is not yet on the list). We will go with this as far as you guys want to take it.

I will post a new list every 2 days with 10-15 options to vote on.

If you feel like making an argument on why a guy should be voted here, feel free to vote and state why you voted for that player.

If there is someone that is not currently listed as an option to vote on, vote for 'other' then just state who you want to vote for in the thread.

If there is anyone you would like to see as an option on the next poll, just say so and if they garner enough support, they will be placed on the next poll. Guys with the lowest amount of votes will usually be removed for the next few guys who were talked about in the previous thread.

Player(s) who recieved 0 votes last round and will go back into rotation - Zach Cozart, Rafael Gonzalez, Jordan Smith, and Phil Valiquette.

    Prospect 1 - Jay Bruce
    Prospect 2 - Homer Bailey
    Prospect 3 - Johnny Cueto
    Prospect 4 - Joey Votto
    Prospect 5 - Todd Frazier
    Prospect 6 - Drew Stubbs
    Prospect 7 - Matt Maloney
    Prospect 8 - Josh Roenicke
    Prospect 9 - Travis Wood
    Prospect 10 - Devin Mesoraco
    Prospect 11 - Kyle Lotzkar
    Prospect 12 - Danny Dorn
    Prospect 13 - Sean Watson
    Prospect 14 - Carlos Fisher
    Prospect 15 - Juan Francisco
    Prospect 16 - Neftali Soto
    Prospect 17 - Brandon Waring
    Prospect 18 - Adam Rosales
    Prospect 19 - Tyler Pelland
    Prospect 20 - Daryl Thompson

Lecure. At 23, in an injury plagued season at AA, had about a strikeout an inning for 110 innings. Bodes well for the future. Viola is 24 with only 19 innings at AA, although he did very well. And Doug says starters are more valuable.

As we go down the list, I think Rafael Gonzalez, Jordan Smith, and Phil Valiquette should soon get back on. Smith doesn't get the ink, but he had a very fine season at Dayton with a 1.29 WHIP, excellent for a starter. Throws ground balls. I think he should crack the top 30.

    Valaika.

    I think he's underrated here. He'll play most of 08 as a 22-year-old.

It's amazing how conservative redszone voters are. Upside is hardly being valued at all. We've got 33 votes this round for Dickerson, Lecur, Lutz, McBeth, Viola, andValaika, and 1 total for Scott Carroll and Evan Hildenbrandt.

Personally, I can't justify voting for a 6th round HS pitcher with no professional track record over players who have been productive in the minors. A guy like Hildenbrandt isn't anywhere on my radar right now.

Its hard to vote for Carroll and Hildenbrandt with no idea of their skills.
Can you tell me what their scouting reports are?

This is what I was able to find on Carroll around draft time
He throws 91-93 consistantly and has touched 94-95 in the past at times. He put on 15 pounds of muscle between this year and last year, mostly in his lower body, which has allowed him to last longer into games this year. He throws two different versions of a splitter, one which dives in against left handed batters and then one that is more straight and kind of works as a change up type pitch against right handers. He has a slider that is in the low 80s. He also throws a curveball, but it is not one of his better pitches.
This is what I found on Hildenbrandt around draft time
He pitches 88-91 and has touched 93 MPH. He throws a curveball that is in the high 70s that can be very good at times.
Wasn't as much out there on Hildenbrandt.

Well I hope this is the last time I gotta vote for Pedro. It's been a long time coming and I am ready to move on to someone new.

We have been supporting the same reliever since at least Vote#14. I really hope you are right and he gets in this time. Will you change your avatar if he finally wins?

Yeah I know and I started voting for him before he was even on the board at #7. In retrospect that was too high knowing what I know now. However I do really like him, I hope I am right as well.

Yeah I gotta change it, it makes no sense after he get's in.

This is really getting into the area of, "I dunno". It will be really interesting if any of these guys amount to something, then we will all look like a bunch of statistics devouring idiots, who never spent any time actually watching these players perform. I hope they all prove us to be just that.

    PS.
Who the hell is Sean Henry that he deserves to be in the poll,,,,twice?!? Is it 2 different guys, and we are left to wonder which we are voting for? I'll throw in Petr Cech. Anybody from Transylvania has to be feared.

This is about the 8th straight time I have voted for Pedro Viola and it looks like it's finally paying off!
