    What I've Learned

Every year Esquire magazine comes out with an issue where the famous and successful share tips on life, money, getting along with others, morality, etc.

I thought it would be cool to do a first annual "What I've Learned" on the non-baseball side of the board.

These don't have to be original- good gracious, I'm not sure there is an original idea under the sun anyway- just little pieces of wisdom you've picked up along the way that have worked for you in some way in your life. Or just a tidbit that adds something positive to the world.

I'll throw up one from Hugh Heffner:

"When you are in a position to not be a nice person, that's when you find out who you really are."

Or one of my own: "Just because they look the same, yellow cake mix and pancake batter do not taste the same."

I'm expecting Falls City Beer to get us started.

When you are not sure if you should speak or keep your mouth shut, do the latter.

75% of success is just showing up.

    10% is being prepared.

    10% is contributing.

    5% is the genius part.

i.e. not everyone has to be a genius. Just show up, be prepared, and contribute. People will value you.

The more things change the more they stay the same.

If you see a guy that you went to school with that you really don't want to talk to, fake a heart attack, when your in the ambulance pop your head up and say "is he gone, man I hated that guy"

    Re: What I've Learned

Try and be nice to as many people as possible through out your life, 'cause you never know who you'll run into down the line. Also, it's just a nice way to live.

Case in point: My brother went on an interview after college and the guy interviewing him asked him who his father was. Long story short, it turned out my father used to torment this guy throughout HS. Amazingly, he got the job. But that could have went a lot worse.

Never take a cheap load just to get moving. Patience will usually pay off in the long run. I'm sure that applies somewhere else other than my line of work.

    Everyone makes mistakes.

It's what you do to correct your mistakes that shows what kind of person you are.
