    Reds mentioned on Melky Cabrera???

    per rotoworld.com

FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal believes Mike Cameron could soon sign with the Yankees or Brewers.
The Yankees were saying they wouldn't bring in a starting center fielder even if they dealt Melky Cabrera, but that was just more deception. It is a surprise that they'd perhaps put in a bid for Cameron before trading Cabrera. Rosenthal seems to believe that Cabrera could go to Cubs, Reds, Braves, Royals or Pirates in return for prospects. The Cubs also have some level of interest in Cameron, but he's more likely to get multiple years elsewhere.

this would be a shock to see him traded for ONLY prospects and the Yankees then sign Cameron.. I dont see that happening!!

Here's the exact article by Rosenthal:

The Brewers face strong competition for free-agent center fielder Mike Cameron, perhaps stronger than they even imagined.

The Yankees are showing serious interest in Cameron, major-league sources say, figuring that they could trade center fielder Melky Cabrera even if they do not send him to the Twins for left-hander Johan Santana.

Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez is a supporter of Cameron's; the two were teammates with the Mariners in 2000. Cameron also has recent experience playing in New York; he was with the Mets in '04 and '05.

Cabrera, 23, is part of the Yankees' offer for Santana, but could fit for several teams that are in the market for a young, affordable, switch-hitting center fielder.

Those teams include the Cubs, Reds, Braves, Royals and Pirates. The Yankees likely would seek prospects for Cabrera
, replace him with Cameron in center and keep Johnny Damon in left.

Damon would remain in center for the start of the season while Cameron serves a 25-game suspension for testing positive for a banned stimulant.

Cameron, 35, likely would sign a two-year deal, giving the Yankees time to continue developing their top center-field prospect, Austin Jackson, who split last season between Class A and Class AA.

The Cubs are on the fringe of the Cameron pursuit, and the Twins' interest could grow if they fail to land a center fielder in a trade for Santana. But Cameron is likely to sign with the Yankees or Brewers before the Santana question is resolved.
“I don’t care,” Votto said of passing his friend and former teammate. “He’s in the past. Bye-bye, Jay.”

    Last season:
    .273/.321/.391

    Short career:
    .275/.340/.388

He's young, cheap, and can switch hit. You know GABP would give his numbers a boost. Depending on what we give up, you could do alot worse. Plus even with Bruce, we're going to need at least one more outfielder after 2008, if not two.

Not interested if it involves giving up anyone of value. Unless of course he's an elite defender in CF, but I doubt that he is.

I wonder if this isn't just the Yankees floating this to let the Twins know they can look elsewhere.

Griffey, Dunn, Bruce, Freel, Hopper, Dickerson, and Fiorentino.. Melky obviously fits in after Bruce but how do we get him AB's unless Dunn is moved to 1st.

If the Reds were to acquire Melky, signs would point to Bruce starting the year in AAA.

This rumor is pretty weak as far as rumors go... the actual quote just says that the Reds are known to have interest in a CF type....doesn't seem like we're "linked" to Cabrera necessarily, but:
Bruce, Melky, Griffey in the outfield and Dunn at 1st would be nice ... as long as Dunn can learn the defensive ropes. Could Dunn at 1st lend support to Votto heading out in a Bedard-type deal... aww... speculation

Anyone got anything on Melky's D? If he's a true CF with the range to run down the umpteen fly balls given up by everyone but Aaron, Bronson, and Coco, then sign me up! He'd be like Brandon Phillips in the OF. Hopper and Freel are a two-headed defense defective monster in CF and Bruce should probably play in one of the corners.

Here's a thought...what if Melky comes in to play RF with Bruce in CF and Dunn in LF...Junior traded or to 1B if Votto goes in a deal for an arm like Bedard?
