Jacobs Field to be Renamed - "Progressive Field"

Should be announed in the next couple of days...I happen to have a little inside info about this. I think it sounds a little goofy, to be honest...

More than a little goofy. We all know these deals are commercial, but at least "Great American" doesn't sound as much like an advertisement.

We got lucky with "Great American." Nobody outside Cincy knows Great American Insurance...

Man I hate this trend. What a sell-out. Of course it's not as bad as Riverfront becoming "Cinergy Field". Man that still makes me mad. Next we're going to start seeing Burger King Stadium, and McDonalds Field.

LOL. I'm a life-long Reds fan and I had no idea that it was named after an insurance company. :O) Of course if I still lived in Ohio I might have heard of them. Oh well.

Too bad it's no longer in existance, because the "Burger Kingdome" has some kind of ring to it

I agree that I dislike this trend. It began for me with Riverfront's transition to Cinergy field. The bellweather will be if someone buys and renames Wrigley; as it will be for sale soon.

Just spoke with my Brother-in-law, he lives in Westlake-a suburb of Cleveland, and you're right Jacobs Field (aka The Jake) will be known as Progressive Field from the company owning naming rights: Progressive Insurance. He wasn't happy about the news but that's the way it is.

Wrigley was the original innovator of corporate-named stadiums.

    I don't know, I might be able to tolerate a McDonald's Field.

Just so I could say I was going down to the 'Mac to catch the game.
