    Re: Where Do You Work?

Since I got out of college I've been in sales. About six months ago I grew pretty tired of the erratic hours and the ridiculous amount of travel. A guy I know, who owns a slate and tile roofing company, was in need of someone to do copper work (which I had training when I was younger). I talked to my wife about it and I took the job. It is actually a tiny bit more money than I was making before, and I love it. I know my schedule every week, I have every weekend off. I don't have to deal with customers more than one or two days a week and even then it's only for a few minutes at a time.

I know eventually I'll go back into the business world, but right now I'm really liking what I do. I like working outside, even in January, The North Face coats are a wonderful thing. I've been in more snowball fights in the last two months than I've been in since I was a little kid.

I'm an electronics engineer for the USAF. I put up with fighter pilots and their war stories for a living. I also work in a very large building with no windows.

What if this wasn't a rhetorical question?

All models are wrong. Some of them are useful.

I work for EMC, a computer storage vendor.

I think they call me a technologist these days, i.e. just a cog in the corporate machine.
