    Bobby Fischer dead at 64

An enigmatic figure to say the least.

There have been many people thought to be a genius who are also insane. I am not an expert in this matter, but I'd have to put Fischer in this category.

edit.. thanks WMR (next message). Used the edit so I wouldn't be only one away! I think it means I have wasted a lot of time "Searching for REDS info" (some will get it).

I learned a lot about chess from his "Bobby Fischer Teaches Chess" book. A true chess genius, no doubt. His behavior during the last two-thirds of his life, though, is what one could only describe as "regrettable".
We'll burn that bridge when we get to it.

I agree. A great chess player but to quote Barney Fife, "He (was) a nut." I think a lot of geniuses kind of straddle that line.

Lennon was asked if he considered himself a genius. He responded that there is that "fine line" between genius and insanity. And since he's never been committed, he must be a genius. Humility wasn't one of his strong points though.

There is such a class as super genius too

Well, there are geniuses, but there are also just jerks. Bobby Fischer was probably a genius and probably crazy, and maybe those are excuses for each other, but neither excuses jerkdom.
