Not much respect for Gonzalez and Smith and their solid years at Dayton? They possess plus velocity and showed the strength to make 25 or so starts at age 21. That's enough to make them intriguing suspects (not quite prospects) for me.
Justin Reed is another intriguing suspect - great athlete, still learning baseball, from a smaller Miss. HS. He displayed a little more power than I thought he had last year, but he needs to show better pitch recognition in 2008.
I think Janish has found his offensive ceiling at AAA. He makes Castro look like an offensive juggernaut.

He didn't struggle? Batting .250 with 41 strikeouts in 100 at bats is not exactly lighting it up.

And for people saying he is incredibly fast, his stolen base percentages don't agree. Last year: 13 SB - 7 CS.

Not saying he's not going to do well in the future, he is young. But I wouldn't consider him much of a prospect at this point in time.

But you are also ignoring the fact that he still gets on base (.353 at Billings) and 100 at bats is a very small sample size. For the year he only had 229 at bats. He does strike out too much but so do a lot of players at age 19. He improved greatly from year 1 and almost OPS'd .800 (.799 for the season). No one has said that he is a top 15 prospect in the system but he has more potential than people are giving him credit for.

    Good points.

This year will be a telling year for him.

Reed has more triples than HR so far. Is that room for power growth or are those stretched doubles? The walks are very solid, but I agree, those K's are a warning flag that should be watched. Little guys with long swings don't seem to have much success in the long term.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

    It does appear that way.
