    Not bad.
Love It! He has post season/World Series exposure as well.

Yep, BB/9 rates over 5 the last 3 years (5.26, 5.09, 5.03). However, he's generally had FIPs in the mid to low 4s, with one outlier of 5.71. He seems like an OK pickup for aforementioned reasons, but I don't think he's anything to get excited about.

I can't see him doing well in the rotation, if that's indeed where they want to put him. There's no way he's going to give you 150+ innings.

Now if he's thrown into the bullpen in place of Mike Stanton, then this is a VERY nice move.

    Time will tell.

    So does Mike Stanton

For the record, this looks to be a good pickup.

They might just try and slip Anderson through waivers though.
Could be a trade as well..

I agree. I suspect he'd be a disaster starting in GAB, but if he can replicate his numbers from last year as a reliever, he helps, obviously.

He hit 95 MPH on the gun on a highlight video on his player page at mlb.com.

    That's impressive!

If he's brought in and basically handed a rotation spot, he's this year's Kirk Saarloos.

If none of the youngins light it up in spring ball, I see him beginning the season as a starter until at the latest mid season. By then one of the four should have established themselves. Hopefully, it marks more competition and a possible early departure by a member of the senior circuit.

seems like a reasonable risk given the marketplace.

It's a much better option than Josh Fogg or Livan Hernandez. I'm pleased with this move, especially for a 1 year deal.

True.. But Affeldt's numbers are pretty good in the post season (7 Games):

    2-1 1.69 ERA 5.1 Inn. 1 BB 4 SO

Now...this doesn't put them over the top, so another starter should still be a priority.

Yeah.. definitely because you don't know how he's going to fair as a starter if that is the way the Reds are going to use him or if it was to strengthen the pen. Affeldt last started a game with KC before being dealt to Colorado in 2006. So who knows.

They are going to have to free up a roster spot which is why I'm guessing the Reds haven't announced the deal and probably won't until Monday.

This says too me that the reds are going to look for one year fillers so that the young guns can come up to the bigs with lower amount of pressure.

Of course, I still think they need to sign another LH starter for the rotation but I like this signing A LOT...really strengthens the BP and could help the rotation when needed.
