Which will be surprise teams in 2008? **MLB.com**

So who will be the surprise team of 2008? We don't know. Hello ... that's why it's called a surprise.

    But, we've got our suspicions.

No. 1 on this hunch list are the Cincinnati Reds. It might be a bigger surprise if they don't ambush.

Pretty sweet to see the Reds getting love across the board lately!

I thought it was kind of cool to see the Reds mentioned in that article and I'm also very excited to see what's to come from our guys this season.
"I tried to play golf, but I found out I wasn't very good." -Joey Votto on his offseason hobby search

An MLB.com reporter asked what one thing Votto couldn’t do. “I can’t skate or play hockey,” Votto said. “Well, I can skate ... but I can’t stop.”

It's nice to see the Reds get some national media attention, even if it is the internet. It seems like they have a great ability to fly under the media radar.

I can't wait to see how this year unfolds.

No one on this board hates the Reds or they would not be here. Its been almost 15 years without a single trip to the playoffs sorry if everyone is not such an optimist every spring. I personally am really looking forward to this season to see what the young guys can do, but I completely understand people who will wait a few months before getting their hopes up.

Who says I'm being an optimist. Im not even talking about the people who will wait a few months even though they are just fairweather fans that just wont pay attention if they dont win. Im talking about the fans that are "oh god the sky is falling we suck forever" no matter what the front office does.

We're becoming complacent before we have done anything. I'll admit, I don't think we're good enough. I think we'll contend, but I don't know if we'll make it to the playoffs.
If you can't build a winning team with that core a fire-sale isn't the solution. Selling the franchise, moving them to Nashville and converting GABP into a used car lot is.

I think that we will contend this year, and possibly make a run in the playoffs, especially if our pitching gets better. But with the talent this year, I'm looking forward to us making some noise coming September and October.
    Let's make some noise!

I think it was a great article and I think the the choices of the Reds and Rays were great. I think the Royals should have been another team mentioned. I still don't like the Guillen signing though.

If they get Blanton, I think they surprise.

    SP - Harang
    SP - Blanton
    SP - Arroyo
    SP - Belisle
SP - Affeldt, Cueto, Volquez, and a whole host of other contenders.

We need a lefty starter badly.

If they get Blanton and offer up a rotation like that, the element of surprise is gone.
