I too am an Earl fan. It really is a shame that both Life and Earl were not renewed as the apparent pick over Life, Southland, and pick over Earl, Parks and Recreation, have seen their demo ratings really plummet from the peak they had early on. I can't comment on Southland's quality, but I do know that P&R is a poor effort compared to 30 Rock or The Office, and while Earl has been struggling a bit after being so great the first two seasons, I think its potential for redemption is much higher than P&R's, which just feels like Greg Daniels trying to make an Office show but with a female Michael Scott. I think at the very least, NBC owed Earl a chance to end with some closure.
Hopefully FOX or ABC (another possible suitor for Earl) realizes this and picks it up.
With that said, I was very pleased that Chuck was picked up as well as Better Off Ted, which was the funniest show to debut this year and one that I thought had no shot at renewal. With Chuck I am predicting that Anna-Wu is gone or comes back late in the season (to reduce her episode count) and the same for General Beckman. I think Emmit, Tony Hale's character, is completely gone. Overall, I think the budget cuts won't be too bad as the helicopters and the explosions aren't what really makes Chuck, but the play between the three main characters and things like Jeffster singing "Africa" do.
