I would definitley appreciate him more if that were the case.

Just making a point that control isn't always the be all end all.

As for Zambrano vs Bailey.... its not worth the time going into it.

Do you bank on more success or do you parlay it into something else? Both are viable options and it's nothing but a good thing for a franchise to have those options.
If nothing else, all these trade discussions involving Bailey and the rest of the highly rated cusp-of-the-majors prospects are helping us identify our levels of risk tolerance.

to that first he would need Zambrano's stuff. The Bailey and his stuff on display in 2007 was nowhere near Zambrano.

    Don't confuse stuff with control.

His curve and fastball are right there. (When healthy)

didn't. I saw a guy whose curve tended to roll a bit ... nowhere near the quality of Zambrano's slider.

Was that healthy Homer or injured Homer?

When healthy, I thought his curve was a fairly devastating pitch.

both. It was better in September but still wasn't a major league out pitch.

Bailey has a world of potential ... IMHO, unless he makes a leap forward in the spring, he needs to spend more time at AAA and work through some issues.

Wasn't a major league out pitch? Due to the quality of the itself (break? speed? deception?) or Homer's ability, or lack thereof, to command and locate it?
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

The problem with a curveball is it doesn't tend to get a lot of swings and misses and most umpires don't know how to call it . Thusly to be a nasty pitch it needs to be a hammer.

Bailey obviously struggled with the command on it as he had a tendency to leave it up in the zone. I much prefer the slider unless you can generate the arm speed of a Koufax/Ryan/Wood/Gooden and have a curve that generates a lot of swings and misses.

I hope he shows up this spring with command of a 94 mph fastball and a yellow hammer for a curve because the topic of we coulda had Blanton will never come up again.

Bailey's problem wasn't the curve, it was the changeup. You never want to overuse a curveball. Being a fastball/changeup pitcher will set up the curveball better. Of course it will tighten up with experience, but the changeup will define his rise in the majors.

So based on this, you'd rather have Bailey now, and Bailey in the future?

    You wouldn't want Zambrano now?

I don't know how what I said can help you come to that conclusion. I would take Z this year, but after that I am not so sure.
