    Classic movies (suggestions)

I have gotten into classic movies a bit this summer, and am really trying to see all of the top movies of all time. Here's what I've seen so far.

    Dr Strangelove
    The Searchers
    Apocalypse Now
    Rear Window
    Citizen Kane
    12 Angry Men
The Man Who Knew too much
    Psycho
    The Untouchables
    Casino
    Godfather Trilogy (already seen)
    Goodfellas (already seen)
    Vertigo
    Taxi Driver
    Shawshank
    The Graduate

    Movies I'm trying to see:

    North By Northwest
    Chinatown
    Schindler's List

Probably more that I can't think of, but what other suggestions do you folks have?

It looks like you're into dramas...& Hitchcock (will you try comedies (you do have Dr. Strangelove... or musicals?):

Lawrence of Arabia (get the WS version)
    Ben Hur

    A Christmas Carol (1952 w/Alastir Sim)

    If you'll try musicals...

    Cabaret
    An American In Paris
    A Hard Days Night
    Holiday Inn

    North By Northwest
THE best Hitchcock movie IMHO - if just for the crop dusting scene.

Check out Maxim magazine, one of the last two issues had a list of like 300 or so classic movies, like 20 or so in various categories. I'm not saying I agreed whole-heartedly with their choices but the majority are classics IMO. I don't know if the list came out on line.

A classic that I don't see mentioned yet is "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance" directed by John Ford and starring Jimmy Stewart, John Wayne and Lee Marvin. Superficially it is just a good Western... but it is actually far deeper than that, with stories within stories.

To quote Alfred Hitchcock on who the best three American directors were:

"John Ford, John Ford and John Ford."
