    White Sox Sign Bartolo Colon

Bartolo Colon has reportedly reached a preliminary agreement with the White Sox and is taking a physical. The White Sox are believed to have offered Colon a one-year deal with a low base salary last month. It didn't interest him at the time, but he probably couldn't do any better after a rather unimpressive showing in winter ball. Colon would compete with John Danks and Gavin Floyd for two spots in the White Sox rotation. Feb. 19 - 11:34 pm et

A move like this certainly wouldn't have hurt the Reds....

    From MLBTradeRumors:

WEDNESDAY, 10:41am: Ozzie Guillen says the Sox haven't met with Colon's people for weeks, according to Mark Gonzales. So maybe this rumor is dead.

Im all for signing Colon but I thought reports on redszone from winter ball said his fastball velocity just wasn't there.

    It isn't.

That's why no one has signed him yet.

"Since I've been with the Reds in 1989, we've never had a farm system this loaded," Bowden said. "If we were the New York Yankees and had unlimited dollars, we could have traded for Colon, (Jeff) Weaver, Rolen, (Cliff) Floyd, (Kenny) Rogers and Finley and gotten them all -- and still held onto our top five prospects. That's an amazing statement."

I was a proponent of signing Colon until his performance in winter ball. His velocity was way down (reportedly mid to high 80's) and he quit throwing as well.

The White Sox are idiots if they offer him a major league contract
