    Pitching competition -- spring '08

Locks to make staff (9)-- Harang, Arroyo, Fogg, Belisle, Affeldt, Volquez, Cabrera, Burton, Weathers. (Bray not included as lock due to injury.)

That leaves three open slots, perhaps one starter but mostly in the bullpen. I see about 16 candidates for those three slots.

Top "veteran" candidates for three spots --

Bray, Majewski, Stanton, Coffey, Coutlangus, Sauerbeck, Mercker.

Top prospect candidates for three spots --

Bailey, Cueto, Roenicke, Pelland, Valenzuela, Maloney.

Other candidates with a shot --

    McBeth, Salmon, Brower.

Favorites for the three spots? Bray, if healthy. Majewski or Stanton depending if lefty or righty is needed to fill out bullpen. And Bailey because Reds seem to feel he should grow at the major league level.

Of course, injuries may intervene, but there isn't a lot of room for guys like Coffey, Coutlangus, etc.

Didn't see one directly on this subject, but if people don't want to respond to this so be it.

Oops. The very mistake the Reds made at his press conference.

    Yes, I meant Cordero.

    1. i agree with your 9 locks to make the staff

    2. unless Stanton has a great spring he should be waived

    3. I don't want to see Coffey or especially Majik in a Reds uniform again. Both seem to have talent but need a change of scenery.

    4. I would like to see three of the following: Bray if healthy, Coutlangas, Roenike, Pelland, Salmon & McBeth.
