If he's feeling it when he steps hard, I'd bet torn meniscus. That's what my son said his felt like.

can always hope he won't be ready for opening day ... thus giving Keppinger an opportunity he may not relinquish.

I don't know. Some managers/coaches like to say that a guy won't lose his starting job because of injury.

I didn't say every manager felt that way. I honestly have no idea where Baker stands on it. One would hope that if Kepp is lights out during the time Gonzalez is hurt, he would keep the job. Maybe Dusty sees it that way too. Maybe not.

From Dusty - via Mark Sheldon -

"You don't get any better defensively than Gonzalez," Baker said. "Keppinger is a good player, but Gonzalez has more range. Gonzalez is one of the top shortstops in baseball to me. Keppinger did a fine job and you like having a guy like Keppinger on your team. He's working out at first base, second base, third base and shortstop. I know he can hit and he knows he can hit."
    Enjoy. You are welcome.
Some people play baseball. Baseball plays Jay Bruce.

Dusty must still be playing MVP Baseball 2002.
