I love spring training.
Gil has a good day. The guy's got some tools and plays an interesting mix of positions. RH power bat, too. Nice profile for a future bench player, methinks. But get him 500 ABs in AAA this year.
Janish. I've been a supporter -- good defense up the middle plays for me, even if it's as an extra guy. Good to see him get a little recognition from the skipper.
Drew Anderson -- not a huge fan, but what they hey. Versatile INF-OF LH bat. Ohio State boy. Maybe if he learns to play some 3B he can land a job in 09. I'd like to see a LH bat behind Phillips and EdE someday. Just not sure Drew's the guy.......
Valenzuela -- ain't making the team. Will be interesting to see if they try to offer the Bravos a trade for his rights. If so, he'll be a starter in Dayton or Sarasota, I imagine. The guy's a project.
Cueto -- Is that a buzz I'm hearing?
Cueto > Homer
Oh yeah...........THAT Drew Anderson. Not the same Drew Anderson.
Nice first day for the new guy!
"This isn’t stats vs scouts - this is stats and scouts working together, building an organization that blends the best of both worlds. This is the blueprint for how a baseball organization should be run. And, whether the baseball men of the 20th century like it or not, this is where baseball is going."---Dave Cameron, U.S.S. Mariner
Chip gets a million billion rep points for the comment on Castro on the first page.

Juan Castro is 3 BBs behind last year's total and 17 behind his career high.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.
I'm going to point this out every chance I get.
Here's Jeff Brantley scouting report on Cueto: "He looked great. He was 92 to 96 on the gun I saw. But you can throw out all the things good and bad physically. I look for mound presence. I saw that big time."
I'm not going to get excited about an intersquad game, but it's good to hear he threw well. Jerry Gil would be a nice guy to have has a 25th man.
Interesting that Burton wasn't hot out of the gate last year either.
Fascinating.Juan Castro is 3 BBs behind last year's total and 17 behind his career high.
What other players can we mock?
