Talk about snake bit! Check out the Cubbies injury list!

This has to be the most off the wall laundry list of injuries I've ever seen!

    From mlb.com.

The Cubs have had a variety of injuries this spring. So far, infielder Mark DeRosa was hospitalized with an irregular heartbeat, pitcher Jose Ascanio had a bruised face after getting punched in a robbery attempt, and outfielder Felix Pie missed a couple of days early because of a twisted testicle. Third baseman Aramis Ramirez remains sidelined with a sore right shoulder.
Also Alfonso Soriano was sidelined today due to a fractured finger suffered while shagging fly balls. But man.....twisted testicle?
Benzinger backing and calling! And the 1990 world championship series belongs to the Cincinnati Reds!

I was wondering the same thing. I'm fairly educated when it comes to medical issues, but this one is new to me.

I have some ideas, but this is a family board, so I will keep them to myself.

    Definition
The cord supplying blood to the testicle can become twisted in a condition known as testicular torsion. If this happens, blood flow can be cut off and the testicle can die. Testicular torsion repair is a surgical procedure in which the testicle is untwisted and anchored to the scrotum in the proper place.

    Incidence and Prevalence
Testicular torsion primarily affects infants in the first year of life and adolescent boys age 12-18, although it can occur at any age. Males with one or both testicles not descended into scrotum (cryptorchidism) develop testicular torsion more often than the general population.

    Risk Factors
Injury to the scrotum or groin and vigorous physical activity are risk factors.

    Causes
Injury to the scrotum can initiate a muscle spasm that cause the testicles to twist. Some cases result from inadequate connective tissue that "anchors" the testicle within the scrotum. Many cases are idiopathic (i.e., have no known cause).

I wonder if Ramirez's sore shoulder has anything to do with Pie's injury?

John Starks, the basketball player, had to have one removed due to testicular torsion. It's no joke.

    Rotoworld:
Felix Pie was scheduled for outpatient surgery to correct a case of testicular torsion.
That can't be fun. Pie originally hoped to have the procedure on an off day next week, but he needed it immediately and is expected to miss the next 3-5 days. Sam Fuld and Eric Patterson will play center field.
    Ouch
