I wonder why Castro isn't hitting 2nd? He's playing SS after all.

We've got a Majewski sighting. Let's see if a week's done anything for him.

Got some interesting names in the extra pitchers. Shearn's got to be on the verge of demotion. Valenzuela's in danger of being an unused Rule 5 draftee. Roenicke and Lehr are off to fairly hot starts and could generate even more buzz with good outings today. Despite the struggles of many of the LH relievers in camp, Pelland's barely seen the mound. I suspect he's got a small window of opportunity to turn heads.

Dunn pulled another fast one on Bruce. These rookies will never learn.

Looks like Fay is already laying some ground work in his campaign.

Radar is ominous but it looks like things are going north of Sarasota for now.

    Re: 3/7/2008 Reds vs Pirates

Here's Fays update on the first inning. Nice start by Cueto.

Johnny Cueto's making his first start. He comes as billed. He throws strikes.

Nate McLouth: Called strike, foul, taken third strike.

Jack Wilson: Foul ball, ball, swinging strike. 5-3.

Freddie Sanchez: Ball, foul, taken strike, punch single to right.

Jason Bay: Called strike, ball, flyout to left.

14 pitches/11 strikes. I'll try to get a radar reading, but he looks to be throwing in mid-90s.

The Pirates are throwing John Van Benschoten, the right-hander from Milford and Kent State. Not a good start for him. Scott Hatteberg singled, Ken Griffey Jr. walked, and Brandon Phillips hit an opposite field home run.

MLB.com isn't updating. They are stuck with two in the top of the first. Time warp, I'm guessing.

I'm impressed. He got Jack Wilson and Jason Bay out. That's something Reds pitchers seem to have a problem with.

    Re: 3/7/2008 Reds vs Pirates

MLB.com is back to updating. I assuming the stringer went out to get a days worth of food and beverage. Anyway, a 1-2-3 inning for Cueto with two more K's. Reds lead 3-0 in the 2nd.

Here's Trents take on the 2nd by Cueto. Sounds mighty impressive.

Top 2: Seriously, put Cueto in right now. In the rotation. No. 3. He just chopped Adam LaRoche's bat in half on a grounder to first, don't need to see anything else. His stuff is just filthy. Ronny Paulino swung at strike 3, but not sure he saw what he was swinging at -- or swung at what saw. Same with Steve Pearce
