Clayton Kershaw makes "The Mayor" buckle his knees.
"My mission is to be the ray of hope, the guy who stands out there on that beautiful field and owns up to his mistakes and lets people know it's never completely hopeless, no matter how bad it seems at the time. I have a platform and a message, and now I go to bed at night, sober and happy, praying I can be a good messenger." -Josh Hamilton
Ow...I need a knee replacement after watching that.
Everybody was so outraged the Reds took Stubbs over Lincecum in 2006.... yet there were rumors the Reds would have taken Kershaw if the Dodgers hadn't. Imagine the groaning... a high school pitcher??????????
As nice as it would be to have Lincecum, I think I'd prefer the LH Kershaw.
Not a good first draft for Mr. Krivsky. A lot of times in baseball it's such a crap shoot and you don't know for years who was the better pick. But in the case of Lincecum v Stubbs, it was obvious to many who the Reds needed to take. Then they pulled a Bizarro Seinfeld and "did the opposite." Two years later and Drew Stubbs is still in A ball and Lincecum is a legit No. 3 starter in MLB.
And yeah, I would love to have Kershaw too. Baseball America ranks him as the No. 7 overall prospect. He is behind Bruce, Longoria, Chamberlain, Buckholz, Rasmus and Maybin. In other words, he's the No. 1 pitching prospect in all the minors. Ah what could have been in the '06 draft for the Reds. Not that they ended up having a shot at Kershaw, but heading into the draft it looked like Lincecum (who we did have a shot at) or Kershaw and we ended up with the last thing we needed -- another outfielder that strikes out too much. And one that happens to be far behind schedule.
Yellow hammer. Great curve ball!
That pitch was pure filth.
I hope Kershaw develops for dem bums. They certainly know how to buy pitching, but I can't rememember the last time they developed pitching.
I never bet on curve ball pitchers anymore. Assuming he survives the injury nexus (which he might not as he's only 20 or so), it's tough to get major league umpires to consistently call it for strikes anymore. Even Barry Zito gets squeezed.
I realize the guy has other pitches, and strikes a ton of people out. But I wouldn't anoint this guy a success until he does something in the show.
Stick to your guns.
The "incredible shrinking strikezone," as I call it, has really affected the quality of pitching and has caused hitters to take a totally different approach to the plate. If the umpires would call the strikezone, the way it is written, there would be much more urgency to swing the bat, and pitchers work loads and arm problems would decrease greatly, not to mention what it would do for their confidence on the mound.
The strike zone has even gotten smaller in Little League baseball, and it has done a terrible injustice to the young pitchers that it affects. I see it every year. The umpires at our level have taken their cues from the MLB umpires. You have to throw it through a teacup. My pitchers pitch counts are horrendous after a couple of innings.

It's gotten to the point, and maybe it's always been this way, that not only does the pitch have to look like a strike when it crosses the plate, but it has to look like a strike when it reaches the catcher's glove, too. It's not fair to the pitcher. The recent knock on Homer Bailey is that his curveball has too much curve and can't be thrown for a strike without hanging, thus making it an ineffective pitch despite the huge amount of break he gets on it.
I love it.

Go Reds!

"Sometimes, it's not the sexiest moves that put you over the top," Krivsky said. "It's a series of transactions that help you get there."
Nice pitch.
Go Gators!
*cough* Quest-tec for balls and strikes! *cough*
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.
