In all fairness, batting guys at the top of the lineup in ST can have as much to do about getting them more ABs than any strategic decision. I see 5 guys fighting for a job, followed by 2 guys who already have jobs, followed by 2 guys without a shot.
Games are won on run differential -- scoring more than your opponent. Runs are runs, scored or prevented they all count the same. Worry about scoring more and allowing fewer, not which positions contribute to which side of the equation or how "consistent" you are at your current level of performance.

Let's not let logic get in the way of our complaining!

    Re: 3/12/08 vs Phillies

    Random pregame stuff from Trent:

    * Talked to the Krivdawg, Capellan is subject to the regular Rule V rules -- for the Reds to keep him, they need to have him on the Major League roster all season. There was a $25,000 fee to claim him.

    * Dusty was asked about Johnny Cueto and if the scouting reports had prepared him for what he's seen. "I read (the scouting reports), but I scanned them. I didn't want to be persuaded one way or the other. I scan a lot. I wanted to see it with my own eyes."

What have your eyes told you?
"Same thing yours are telling you."

Also, Cueto and Volquez have both cut their hair.
"He's not Sampson, you know," Baker said.

As far as his expectations for Cueto:
"Just pitch, son, that's all. No pressure, no expectations, just pitch. ... I've got some expectations, I'm just not telling him yet -- that comes later."

Dusty added that later time could be two-to-three years down the line, which means his expectations are probably greater than just a spot int he rotation. He also noted that when he came to Cincinnati, he had several people in other organizations tell him about Cueto and spoke glowingly of him.
    R.I.P E.V. and Cueto's hair.

I know it's been "pile on Dusty" season here at RZ, but I'm going to pile on Dusty.

I'm not a big scout guy, but dude needs to be doing more then "scanning" those reports.

Dusty uses his senses...not some bland, scribbled up notebook! Get with the program!

    Bill Bray makes an appearance!

    * Bottom 5: Bill Bray in. Two pitches to Feliz and he pops up. Bray blew a fastball by Werth on the first pitch. Looked really good. Werth singled up the middle, although it wasn't something he's going to brag to his friends about. Kinda threw his bat at it and went up the middle for a single. Quick work by Bray, keeping my plans intact. Good work. I'm sure he's pretty happy about his first spring training outing being good as well. Redlegs 3, Phillies 1
