I remember Purkey as a kid that learned to love baseball as a 3rd generation Reds fan. If he were pitching today, he'd be a #1 or #2. If memory serves me, he mixed in a knuckler, ala Wakefield. He was integral to a really good staff, especially in '61 when the Reds won the pennant.
