Javy Lopez just retired as well after not making the Braves. Not endorsing just informing.

No way Buck or Soto goes down.

And Quiroz is like the great mystery wrapped in an enigma. Was in the top 50 prospects in all of baseball at one point.

One day he might figure it out. Perhaps with the Reds?

I like Brayan Pena better than any of the Reds catchers, but with Lopez retiring, he probably makes the Braves.

I was just reading an article that said Corky Miller is expected to make the Braves roster as the backup catcher, leaving out in the cold. I would definitely like to see Krivsky target Pena. He just turned 26 years old in January, is a switch-hitter, and has a career .303/.350//.391 line in the minors. His power began to develop a little more last year as he posted a career high .423 SLG% in Richmond with 28 XBH in 345 atbats. On top of that he is considered a good defensive catcher. Go get him, Wayne.

Oh yeah, and he speaks spanish.

Soto and Buck are starting C's for their respective teams. Soto can rake.

    Per Fox Sports via Rotoworld

The Tigers, Reds and Orioles all attempted to trade for Brayan Pena, but the Braves decided to keep him for now as their 25th man.

It's still hard to imagine that they wouldn't let him go for a legitimate prospect. They don't see Pena as a legitimate backup catcher, and while the 26-year-old switch-hitter can play the other corner positions, his bat won't ever make him a starter at one them. If he hadn't been out of options, the Braves almost certainly would have sent him back to Triple-A.
I wish they would have made a deal. Maybe when guys start coming off the DL creating more roster issues, they still will.

And he can catch the knuckleball. Maybe we can convince Jared Fernandez to un-retire.

Brayan Pena was DFA today by the Braves. This is a guy I would like to see the Reds pickup. He would probably be the Reds best catcher. Pena is a career .303/.350/.391 hitter in the minor leagues.

Any idea of what the Reds might have to give up to get him?
Hes only 26 and likely won't get much of a chance to catch when the guy hes backing up is Brian McCann.
